As a clinical supervisor for the First 5 KidConnection Program – Mimi took the time to learn about the clients’, the families, and their needs through individual and group supervision. With this information she was able to provide and offer age appropriate interventions, resources and strategies to enhance the well-being of clients’ in the program.
As a Home Visitor/Case Manager, Mimi helped me understand that parents understand and know the child best. Mimi encouraged me to model for families’ age appropriate interventions in order for families to continue to strengthen these skills with the client. It was important for me to be able to coach families and provide them the tools they need to be able to advocate for the needs of the client and enhance their development.
I received meaningful coaching that supported me in feeling confident about working with children who were experiencing different types of behaviors such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity-Disorder, Speech Delays, Sensory processing issues, tantrums and aggressiveness. Mimi always reminded me the importance of building rapport with clients and families and strengthen parent-child relationship. In addition to working alongside a multidisciplinary team that helped me provide individualized care to clients and provide appropriate linkages to other community services and resources.

Le Khanh Child Psychotherapist
As a child psychotherapist practicing in early childhood mental health in Ho Chi Minh City since 2000, I have worked with several specialists from abroad. However, having an opportunity to work with a well-trained bilingual early childhood mental health specialist like Ms. Thuong is extremely rare.
After discussing and exchanging ideas, Ms. Thuong and I organized a seminar on the topic of “Sensory Emotional Regulation”. Ms. Thuong first sent me a presentation with quite complex and comprehensive information, which I felt the participants (parents and teachers) would find it difficult to understand. I shared with her my thoughts and she sent me another presentation using very simple words and illustrations, which was just perfect for the level of the participants.
Throughout the seminar, she presented fluently in Vietnamese with such a clear voice and an eloquent style. She provided very good information about sensory difficulties often seen in children with Autism, including such as hearing, smelling, tasting, touching, vestibular, and proprioception (body position). This type of information was not easy to explain but she presented it very well by using simple words, using videos and examples which helped all participants understand. This seminar, held in Jan 2018 in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, was a basic workshop about sensory issues, but has certainly raised more awareness of the importance of sensory regulation in young children.
Since then I have yet had a chance to see her again, but she has left a wonderful impression as an early childhood mental health specialist. Her profound knowledge has helped me with my professional continuing education.
